Generic medicines

A genericdrug is a drug defined as “a drug product that is comparable to brand/reference listed drug product in dosage form, strength, route of administration, quality and performance characteristics and intended use. Generic drugs are labeled with the name of the manufacturer and the adopted name of the drug.

A generic drug must contain the same active ingredient as the original formulation. Generic drugs are frequently as effective as, but much cheaper than, brand-name drugs. Because of their, generic drugs are often the only medicines that the poorest can access. A brandname is a name given to a drug by the manufacturer. The use of the name is reserved exclusively for its owner.
